Sharing Your Faith on Social Media
Many people spend an average of 4 hours a day on mobile devices and 5.2 hours a day on desktops and tablets. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter; almost everyone—young and old—are using these social media applications in their everyday lives.
These social media apps are useful when it comes to communicating and staying connected with our friends and families. But as Christians, we can harness social media as a way of strengthening our spiritual lives. The Apostle Paul tells us that in whatever we do, we should do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Sharing our faith through various social media platforms can be a great way to glorify our Creator.
Union Church of Manila, a vibrant international Christian church in Makati, shares five simple ways to show and share our faith on social media.
1. Share the ways God has blessed or sustained you
Create posts that will tell people how God has blessed you or sustained you through a tough time —whether it be as simple as passing a difficult test, or as miraculous as God keeping you safe from a road accident. If we take a closer look, there are truly a lot of ways God is blessing us and sustaining us every day. It is only fitting that we tell His wonderful deeds to the people around us (see Psalm 96:3).
2. Touch people’s soul through music
There is no doubt that people love music. We can use this avenue to share our faith on social media and touch the souls of people. Share videos of bands performing Christian songs on your feed. Or if you see someone who is having a hard time and feeling low, send them links to Christian songs that may encourage and uplift their souls.
3. Spread his word
A Bible verse a day keeps the negativity away. Take the time to post one Bible verse a day for people to read it. You never know who might feel elated or thankful because they came across a Bible verse from you. As Scripture tells us, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). By posting a simple Bible verse, you are spreading the Good News of the gospel to other people.
4. Express faith in other people
Expressing faith in other people is also a form of sharing faith on social media. A little encouragement goes a long way. If you know someone is about to take an important test or undergo an operation, take the time to send them a message of encouragement and let them know you are praying for them. This little deed might seem insignificant but may ultimately lift the spirits of a friend or a family member in need.
5. Above all, pray for those who need it
There will be times when you will come across posts asking people for prayers and help—go ahead and pray for them wholeheartedly. Whatever we ask in prayer, we will receive it, if we have faith (Matthew 21:22). Prayers are powerful, and sometimes this kind of support is all it takes to make a difference for those in need.
So as you scroll through different social media apps, be reminded that sharing your faith in these simple ways can truly make an impact for the Kingdom of God.
